Seven Card Stud
Seven Card Stud is played from a standard pack of 52
cards. The game is suitable for between two and eight players.
Cards are dealt clockwise from the dealer. The player on the
dealer’s left gets the first card. Each players is dealt two
cards down and one open to start with. The player with the
lowest card must open with a “forced” or minimum bet.
If two cards have the same value, the suit decides
which is lower.
The order of suit for the forced bet is
:
- Clubs
- Diamonds
- Hearts
- Spades
|
The suit is only important for the opening forced bet,
after that the suit does not play a role. In the second round
(two cards open) the highest card makes the betting. The betting
is always controlled by limits set by the players (minimum
limit & maximum limit). The next three cards are dealt open
and the last card is down. Finally the players have 4 cards
open and 3 cards down. There
are five betting rounds in this game.
1. Round (player has 3 cards)
Player with the lowest card opens the betting
with a forced bet or minimum bet.
2. Round (player has 4 cards)
From now on, the player with the highest card
makes the betting. If two hands have the same value at the
table, the hand closest to the dealer in a clockwise direction
starts the betting. This player can check or place the minimum
limit. If the player has a pair open, the maximum limit may
also be placed.
3. Round 4. Round and 5. Round
The maximum limit must always be bet. If all
players check then the card is free. Three raises per round
are permitted.
e.g. first bet :
first raise 10 + 10 = 20
second raise 20 + 10 = 30
third raise 30 + 10 = 40
(maximum bet in this round per player)
When the final card has been dealt and the
betting action is finished, the players have a show-down.
The five best cards in each hand are played (i.e. 6th
and 7th cards are ignored). The player with the
best hand receives the pot after all the losing hands are
removed by the dealer.
The dealers job in Seven Card Stud
Shuffle : Scramble
In the meantime the dealer observes the players
and demands payment of the ante.
The ante is collected and placed in the middle
of the table. After that, the cards are cut. Each player is
dealt two cards down and one open.
1. Round
The dealer announces the lowest open card.
Eye contact with this player is established and the player
is requested to place the forced bet. The dealer follows the
betting and commentates. When the betting is complete, the
dealer brings all bets to the middle of the table = Pot.
2. Round
The dealer discards one card (Burn-Card) and
deals one card open to each player still in the game. As soon
as a pair is open the dealer announces it. The dealer prompts
the highest card open to make the betting. The minimum bet
must be placed and if a pair is open, the maximum bet can
also be placed.
3. Round
Once again, a card is discarded – “burned”.
Each player still active in the game receives the next open
card. All pairs are announced as they appear which is also
true for the best hand which starts the betting.
4. Round
The first card is once again “burned” and active
players receive an open card. Each pair, two pairs, three
of a kind, possible straight or possible flush are announced.
The best hand starts the betting.
5. Round
A card is “burned”. “Last Card” is announced and the last
card is dealt down. The best hand showing starts the betting.
Once the last card has been dealt, the cut-card is removed
from the deck and the remaining cards are placed to one
side. The dealer commentates the betting action and announces
the winner in the show-down. All losing hands are collected
and the winning hand remains open until the pot has been
awarded.
In the event of it not being possible to give
each player a card from the deck, the burn-cards are shuffled
into the deck. If there are still not enough cards, an open
card is dealt which is then a common-card for all active players.
